Inflammatory Bowel Disease: Crossroads of Microbes, Epithelium and Immune Systems
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) comprises a group of idiopathic diseases of the intestine characterized by chronic inflammation of the bowel with periods of exacerbation and remission. Although the exact cause of IBD remains undetermined, the condition appears to be related to a combination of genetic and environmental factors resulting in an aberrant activation of the mucosal immune system. This book contains a series of interdisciplinary discussions between clinical and basic scientists focusing on key issues such as:- Epithelial cell and molecular biology, including apoptosis, necrosis and cell survival
- The role of bacterial milieu and mucosal bacteria in the IBD and of prebiotic and probiotic therapy
- The progress towards the identification of susceptibility genes and phenotype-determining genes
- The pharmacogenetics of IBD
- Mucosal immunology and therapeutic strategies stemming therefrom

Aloe Vera [Intestinal, Skin] is a nutritional storehouse, naturally containing several vitamins plus 18 amino acids, in addition to many other dietary factors. It soothes the skin and the tissues lining the digestive tract. It contains many biologically active compounds that support the digestion and absorption of food and nourish the intestinal system. Many companies manufacture aloe vera, but most products on the market have lost much of the plants original benefits due to over processing. Beware of aloe vera juice that claims to have no disagreeable taste. Removing this taste can leave you with a product that is only 10 to 15 percent aloe vera, at best. NSP aloe vera is processed in a special way to avoid the loss of essential vitamins, minerals and other constituents. The leaf is filleted; then the green outer portion that contains aloin is removed, leaving the gel that remains in the leaf. The gel remains thick when the leaf is first cut, but after a few minutes, an enzymatic reaction causes it to become liquid and freely run out. It is this 100 percent pure liquid that NSP collects. To prevent bacterial contamination, we add sodium benzoate as a preservative. Sodium benzoate is effective in very small quantities, and it properly and safely preserves aloe vera juice. NSP Whole Leaf Aloe Vera provides a higher level of mucopolysaccharides than regular filleted aloe vera. Only the intense cleansing components have been removed, leaving a high level of mucopolysaccharides (7,000 mg per liter).Handbook of Physiology: Section 6: The Gastrointestinal System Volume IV: Intestinal Absorption and Secretion (Handbook of Physiology Revised Edition) (Vol 4)
Here is a thorough, up-to-date survey of the physiological processes through which salt, water, and nutrients are absorbed or secreted by the intestinal tract, and of how these myriad processes are regulated. In twenty-five chapters, written by a team of leading experts, the volume addresses four main topics: the methodologies and basic principles of structure and function; intestinal ion transport; nutrient absorption; and macromolecular transport. Throughout, the contributors emphasize recent developments in the field--for example, neuroendocrine-immune cell interactions in the intestinal mucosa, the regulation of intestinal sodium transport, the cloning of the intestinal glucose carrier, the intestinal cytoskeleton, and the regulation of intestinal epithelial transport function by protein kinases and calmodulin. This is not only the fourth and final volume in the series; it is also the broadest, most contemporary approach to this important topic. As such, this book will be warmly welcomed--and often consulted--by student, scholars, professionals, and anyone researching intestinal absorptive mechanisms and their regulation.Biotic Bloom
Biotic Bloom quickly boosts the growth of beneficial microflora. In fact, practitioners note that consuming chicory inulin works better at increasing the number of friendly flora in the intestinal tract than does taking probiotics. If you are dealing with candida overgrowth or intestinal disorders of any type, one of the best things you can do is to take Biotic Bloom for at least a year. This will significantly increase the number of friendly bacteria in your gut, reproducing and recolonizing much more efficiently. Use of Biotic Bloom also suppresses the growth of pathogens, reduces toxins in the liver and colon and stimulates the immune system. Research has shown FOS with beneficial bacteria reduces the pH of the colon - thus enhancing mineral absorption, especially calcium. Biotic Bloom is 100% natural. chicory root Inulin (often called FOS). FOS is fructooleosaccharides, which serves as food for beneficial microfloral. It does not feed candida yeast or bad bacteria, just the good bacteria. One 8-ounce container of powder is a normal 2-month supply when using 2 scoops per day. Biotic Bloom is one of the best and least expensive supplements to use when dealing with candida overgrowth or intestinal disorders of any type.Naturessunshine LBS II Intestinal System Support Herbal Combination Supplement 100 Vegitabs (Pack of 2)

Toxicology of the Gastrointestinal Tract
Toxicology of the Gastrointestinal Tract focuses on the specifics of the mechanisms and adverse effects of xenobiotic agents and pharmaceuticals on the structure and function of the GI tract. The book focuses on a number of specific areas of intestinal research. Beginning with the well-recognized and major functions of nutrient absorption and its role as a protective barrier, the text elaborates on the expanding body of knowledge that relates to the intestines as a major metabolic and immunologic organ involved in the synthesis and degradation of both natural and foreign substances. It includes an overview of the function and dysfunction of the human absorptive process and the effects of microbial flora on these processes, as well as specific classes of toxicants that target the GI tract. The international panel of contributors presents a critical appraisal of the interactions of chemicals and drugs with the gastrointestinal system and the experimental methods and regions of research on which to focus future efforts.Providing a complete and multidisciplinary overview of the gastrointestinal system both in health and as it is involved in the toxicity of exogenous agents, Toxicology of the Gastrointestinal Tract brings together the current and growing knowledge of this critical organ system in a single volume.
